Abandoned by a bitter soul,
the feral child wept.
A dulcet wolf embraced the girl,
although she never slept.
She craved the sight of human hands
instead of speckled paws.
But fleshy bones were never seen,
which forced her to withdraw.
Her tangled hair fell in quilts
across her empty eyes,
and howls escaped a swollen throat;
her savage lullaby.
beautiful. you are truly talented.
ReplyDeleteWow, Excellent imagery and just stunning.
ReplyDeleteThis picture reminded me of one of my favorite stories. A Christmas Carol. In the book, there are two wild, desperate children who are so vividly described. "Want" and "Ignorance" are their names (if I am remembering correctly.)
ReplyDeleteI went back and read the article that inspired your poem and I would like to encourage you to find a way to send it to the wonderful couple who have brought this child into their home and claimed her as their daughter. They are inspirational, as many wouldn't even attempt to adopt a child so damaged and accept the challenge of providing her with the enviroment of love and compassion.
ReplyDeleteYour writing so captures the feelings of a child who is traveling from a world of pain, deprevation and neglect to a world of hope and sunshine. Please, find a way of getting your words to this family. I am sure they would treasure your gift.
